The challenge
Parents far away, people who live alone, anyone walking home at night: sometimes all you need is to know someone is okay, without phone calls or complicated apps.
I'm Okay had to reduce everything to a single gesture, send real-time alerts even with the app closed and warn contacts when a check-in doesn't arrive, without becoming a tool for keeping tabs on people.
Our approach
We designed an app with no groups and no roles: people connect with a personal code, up to twenty contacts with a mutual link. One tap on "I'm okay" notifies everyone straight away; anyone who wants can set a time, and if they don't check in within the grace period their contacts get an alert with their last location. SOS is triggered by holding for three seconds and can be cancelled.
There are two native apps, Swift on iPhone and Kotlin on Android, each using its own system's notifications. The server confirms delivery of important alerts and retries any that didn't arrive. Around them is the imokay.pro website, with a blog and support.
What we built
-
One tap on "I'm okay"
Contacts get a real-time notification. No groups and no roles: everyone is equal.
-
Scheduled check-in with automatic alert
Optional and personal: if the check-in doesn't arrive within the grace period, contacts receive an alert with the last location.
-
Press-and-hold SOS
Three seconds to trigger it and five to cancel, so it never goes off by mistake.
-
Alerts that actually arrive
The phone confirms every notification it receives and the server retries important alerts that weren't delivered.
-
Location only when needed
It's shown only in automatic alerts and SOS, never with "I'm okay", and it's deleted after a few days.
-
Two native apps
SwiftUI on iPhone and Jetpack Compose on Android, each speaking its own system's language.

The result
I'm Okay is available on iPhone and Android: one gesture a day is enough to reassure people far away, and if something is wrong the right people know immediately.
